Once upon a time, in a land that was far, far away, there was a little boy named Prince Max. Max was a very, very, lucky little prince, because he had an absolutely marvelous older sister named Princess Emily.
Together, Prince Max and Princess Emily had very many spectacularly fun adventures.
Prince Max spoke Duh Language, which is a language that only children up to 7 years old can understand. The language is spoken by grunting the words “duh”, “da” and “duuh” in different combinations Emily understood every single word that Prince Max said, but his parents had no idea what he was talking about.
One day, Princess Emily was reading a story to Prince Max about astronauts and Prince Max said “Duuh,” which meant that he wanted to become an astronaut, that instead of going to kindergarten he was going to Astronaut School, and that very soon he would start practicing launching things into space.
Of course, Prince Max’s mom did not understand any of this. She prided herself on thinking that she could understand grunt language, so after he finished explaining all of the astronaut stuff to Princess Emily, their mother rushed over with a banana which she gave to Prince Max because she thought that he had said “duuh” because he was asking for a snack. Prince Max ate the banana quickly and smiled a whole bunch, while his mother congratulated herself on being so good at understanding what he wanted. Prince Max never even told her that he hated bananas.
Anyway, Prince Max developed a plan to launch stuff into space, and Princess Emily helped him. Max threw a toy rocket ship up in the air and bent his head back to see if the rocket would go all the way to space and stay here.
Unfortunately, he learned the hard way about the evil Gravity Monster, who threw the rocket ship right back at Max and hit him in the head. Max was so surprised, that he said “daa,” which meant “Stop throwing stuff at my head, you evil Gravity Monster, or I will find you and punish you by giving you three time outs, all at the same time!”
Just then, Prince Max’s Mom walked by and asked, “Did one of you say something?” Prince Max just said da. Princess Emily, who never told a lie, just said nothing. Their Mom kept walking.
Prince Max whispered to Princess Emily, “Wow, that was close. She almost found out that I can speak English. I don’t want anyone but you to know that. Once she finds out that I understand English, she will want me to do dumb stuff like clean up my toys. At least now when she tells me to do things, I can just grunt, look cute, and pretend that I have no idea what she is talking about.”
Eventually Prince Max did have to start speaking English, because when he arrived on his first day of astronaut school, the first thing that he saw was a sign that said, “Welcome to Astronaut School. Our official language is English. No grunting allowed.”
Although he hated having to speak English, Prince Max loved astronaut school. He become a famous astronaut. His favourite part of astro-naughting was blasting off to space in his rocket ship to visit the Moon, where he had his very own condominium with an indoor swimming pool. Since he had his own place there, all of his friends used to call him, “The Man in the Moon.” Except for Princess Emily. She called him, “The Astronaut Formerly Known as “Duh Boy.”
Although he became famous, Prince Max remained very friendly and smiley. And although he lived much of the time in his condominium on the moon, people often described him as a nice kid who is very down to earth.
